'Gawny' quit Fermanagh over abuse

November 14, 2008
Wexford native Tom 'Gawny' Walsh says he quit as Fermanagh hurling boss after suffering verbal abuse from some of his players. The alleged incidents took place following an Ulster junior club championship match between Lisbellaw of Fermanagh and Mullahoran of Cavan. The then Fermanagh boss was providing some advice to the Cavan club and his county players seemingly took offence: "After the game, I was very badly abused by some of the Lisbellaw players. "These were educated guys and you might say that it was in the heat of the moment, but after what I had to listen to, my position as county manager became impossible."
