Wexford refs avoid strike action
November 10, 2008
Referees in Wexford have decided against taking strike action after they met over the weekend.
The Wexford Referees' Association were furious that the red card handed out by Sean Whelan in last month's senior football championship quarter-final between Shelmaliers and Adamstown was rescinded.
Whelan issued Shelmaliers' Colm Tynan with a straight red card, but the club lodged an appeal which was upheld by the Wexford disciplinary committee.
The Wexford referees made a complaint on the matter which the Regulations Administration Committee is to consider.
Referees' chairman John Rossiter said: "If they come up with what keeps the referees happy, it will be fine. We did not want to interfere with the club by taking drastic action."
