Banville strike sees Horeswood into quarters
October 03, 2008
Horeswood 1-6
Castletown 0-7
A superbly taken goal by county senior star PJ Banville proved the difference as Horeswood took their place in the last eight of the WFC Oil Senior Football Championship last Saturday at Wexford Park.
The corner-forward's major five minutes before the break made way for a comfortable half-time lead of 1-4 to 0-1 for the eventual winners.
However Castletown rallied after the restart and outscored their opponents 0-6 to 0-2, with George Sunderland, Des Carty and James Holmes all sending over singles.
A Leigh O'Brien point late on allowed Horeswood to breath a sigh of relief though before James Holmes' ball into the square for the trailers was bundled over the bar, rather into the back of the net by 'keeper Diarmuid Hartley for the game's last score, sparing his blushes.
