Martin's want explanation over Buffer's Alley reinstatement
October 03, 2008
Members of the St Martin's Under 21 panel have demanded an explanation as to why Buffer's Alley have been reinstated into this year's Wexford Under 21 hurling Premier championship.
The two sides meet in the quarter-finals of the competition back in mid-July and with ten minutes remaining in the match, when Buffer's Alley where leading 2-16 to 1-8, the game was abandoned by referee Justin Heffernan due to violent scenes, which involved players, mentors and supporters.
Both clubs were subsequently thrown out of the championship, however the latest ruling from the Leinster Council has seen Bluffer's Alley reinstated after their appeal, while Martin's remained banned under a similar plead.
Now, St Martin's captain Rory Wilson, speaking on behalf of the panel, has asked for exact reasons as to why the decision to throw his team out was upheld and Alley's was not.
As things stand Buffer's Alley are set to take on Rapparees in the semi-finals of the competition, while Shelmaliers will face Duffry Rovers in the other last four clash.
