Plenty of intermediate football drama last weekend

September 26, 2008
Usually championship action involves the result of a particular game with the winner advancing to the next round and so on, but last weekend's series of game in the Intermediate Football Championship was always going to have tremendous drama and a hectic finish ensured. As the teams entered the final round of games, all but one of the four teams advancing had been identified and of the six teams engaged at the weekend, four of them had a chance of joining Carnew, Ballymanus and Annacurra. Eire Og proved to be the lucky ones, just scraping though on score difference and they got the semi-final slot against Annacurra. Dunlavin had a great chance to advance but could not muster the win over Aughrim. However that victory did not provide the necessary for the South Wicklow side as the margin of victory was not adequate enough. Kilbride while enjoying a competitive game against Carnew would have needed a seven-point winning margin to claim the remaining spot instead.
