Volunteers Club Notes

September 22, 2008
It was a tremendously successful week of action on all fronts for the club, but pride of place must go to our underage footballers. The U-10 footballers produced an exceptional second half display to clinch the Kent Stainless Steel sheild final against Blackwater on thursday last. Their over the water rivals entered the break leading 1-02 to 0-02, but in an amazing second half turnaround the young Vols notched up 2-4 without reply to deservedly take the spoils on a 2-06 to 1-02 scoreline. The U-12 footballers produced an equally emphatic display, recording a fine victory over Bannow-Ballymitty in their county semi-final clash. Looking assured throughout they eventually ended up 0-12 to 0-4 winners. Not to be outdone the U-14's made it through their semi-final, but in farm more dramatic fashion. In what was always going to be a close affair, it took a courageous second half display to see of a gallant Geraldine O'Hanrahan side. At the break the sides were locked at 4 points each. But it was the Vols who got the games only goal and they ultimately edged out their New Ross rivals on a 1-08 to 0-07 scoreline. Best of luck to the U-12 and U-14's in their county finals. The Junior hurlers made sure of their district semi-final place last Sunday morning when they beat St. Anne 3-07 to 0-13, topping their group, while the footballers are facing in to a winner takes all clash against Cloughbawn this Saturday at 5pm in Patricks Park. Training for all adult teams continues every Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm at Pairc Garman. For further information about this, the club and our underage schedules please visit, www.volunteersgaa.com.
