Fitzhenry puts the Duffry in the right place

September 19, 2008
Damian Fitzhenry proved himself master of the placed ball with two goals to his name in helping Duffry Rovers to a 2-6 to 0-11 win over Shelmaliers in last Saturday's senior hurling championship Group 'C' encounter in Monamolin. All but two points of the Duffry total came from the county hurling goalkeeper who contributed four points also from frees. His first goal came after refereed Paddy Stamp had disallowed a score because of a foul but Fitzy ensured that the disappointment did not last long. This was the first championship win of the year for Duffry who can now make the quarterfinal in the 'A' championship and a loss would have denied them that opportunity. Young Thomas Barron, the under-21 forward was in great form for Shels but his efforts were not sufficient to deny Duffry the one-point narrow victory.
