Clonee remember the late Tom Browne in style

September 19, 2008
Perhaps the game itself might not have been a classic but in winning the Wexford Ladies' Football championship on Friday evening, the girls from Clonee did indeed pay tribute to their former life-ling clubman Tom Browne who passed away at a club fixture earlier this season. Clonee got themselves back to the top place in the senior championship in defeating Shelmaliers (1-10 to 0-4) in a game marked more by tactics than good play. All season the winners showed great determination to honour their former club-man and in a way his hard work and dedication over many years transmitted itself through to the players who lined out during this campaign. The Gorey District side got a tremendous boost straight away with Josie Dwyer finding the net within just fifty seconds of the throw-in. The first quarter belonged to the winners with the Shels coming more into the game during the latter stages of the first half. Only four points separated the sides at the break and when Tara Maloney pointed just on the resumption, that was it score-wise for the losers and from that out Clonee dominated.
