Shelmalier Club notes

September 16, 2008
Senior Hurling The Senior hurling team had a disappointing outing on Saturday last in Monamolin going down by the narrowest of margins to the Duffry Rovers. The first half was close fought throughout with the score level 1-3 to 0-6 Damian Fitzhenry the goalscorer from a 21yard free. The ground conditions were far from ideal. The Shels started brightly after the break going 2 pts in front but were again pegged back by a goal by Fitzy from the 21.The Duffry were 3 pts to the good with 7mins remaining but a hectic finish by the lads yielded only 2pts when goal opportunities were available. All this while playing with a man down following a dismissal half way through the second half.. Junior Hurling Shels 2-13 Blackwater 1-6 The Shelmalier Junior recorded a good victory over Blackwater on Sunday in Blackwater. While raining through out all the match the shels got off to a very good start notching up a score of 1-7 to 0-1 at half time. Blackwater fought back after the break and with the elements behind them made a match of it but the shels held their nerve and ran out convincing winners with a scoreline of 2-13 to 1-6. Minor Football In windy conditions in Hollymount on Tuesday night, Shels went into the break only a point up on Ferns. The half time score was -5 to -4 in favour of the Shels. Playing with the wind in the second half, the team upped their game considerably and finished strongly to run out easy winners in the end. Final Score 3-10 to 0-6. Best on the night for the Shels were Goalie Conor O' Neill, Benny Barron, James Gordon and Brian O'Connor. U10 Hurling The U/10 hurlers are in action in Gorey next sat playing in the Naomh Eanna tournament. Our Group includes Ballyhale Shamrocks and Clara from Kilkenny and Naomh Eanna.
