Bunclody 2-7 Duleek/Bellewstown 0-9 Duleek/Bellewstown were knocked out of the Leinster Junior 'A' football championship by Bunclody in a rainy Duleek on Sunday afternoon. The home side had enough opportunities to win the game but didn't take advantage while the side from Wexford took score at each advantage they had. The visitors were in front inside a minute with a point from a free by Claire Finn. The Duleek/Bellewstown combination then hit three wides in succession and had a goal chance when the ball hit the post, but they were dealt a body blow on eight minutes. Fiona Kavanagh picked up possession near the goal and blasted to the bottom corner of the net to give Bunclody an early cushion. The home side's response was to grab three points in quick succession from Debbie Rogers, Catherine Collins and Roisin Lenehan, and Rogers had another goal chance saved by the Bunclody keeper. Kelly Anne Murphy pointed for the visitors and then the combination hit a purple patch with another point from Lenehan and two each from Alex Goodman and Rogers to lead by three. But there were also three wides in that period and Bunclody made them pay just before half-time. Finn grabbed another point and Tracey Nolan scored a second goal from long range for the Wexford side to make it 2-3 to 0-8 at the break. Debbie Rogers levelled five minutes into the second half but, incredibly, the hosts would not score again as the difficult weather conditions turned it into a war of attrition. It was level for almost ten minutes before Kelly Anne Murphy, Denise Kearns and Murphy again put Bunclody three points in front. Duleek/Bellewstown pushed forward to try to create a goal but they ran out of time and Maura Kenny sealed their fate with a late point.
