Martin's unable to spring hinted surprise
September 12, 2008
For much of the first half in last Friday's Wexford Senior Football Championship game involving Castletown and St. Martin's it looked like a surprise might be on the cards when the Wexford District side led 1-4 to 0-3 but in the final minutes of the half the eventual winners seemed to up their performance on the way to a five-point victory.
Teenager Paudie Kelly found the net in the opening half having taken a pass from Ciaran Lynn, who himself was fed by Seamus Dempsey. Despite evidence emerging of Castletown getting stronger as the game progressed, the sides were level by the 10th minute of the second-half. However the combination of a brace of points from Des Carthy and the sending off of Kevin Price considerably affected St. Martin's brave challenge.
Castletown finished with a flourish, outscoring their opponents by eight points to one in the last 22 minutes.
