Little sparkle in south Wexford clash

September 12, 2008
The meeting of neighbours St. Anne's and Bannow-Ballymitty proved a considerable disappointment on Saturday evening last in the Wexford Senior Football Championship when the parties shared a sixteen-point game. The first half was somewhat better than the second with St. Anne's taking a two point lead 0-6 to 0-2 into the interval. The second-half was remarkable only for the fact that the last twenty minutes produced only one score, a point from county minor and senior player Ben Brosnan for Bannow, and a score that ensured that the honours would be shared. Redmond Barry, with one well-taken point to his credit had a fine game for Anne's as had David Forgarty, Rory Stafford and Franny Simpson. Niall Gilbane pointed four frees. Robert Magean gave an outstanding performance at fullback for Bannow and Niall Murphy did a good deal of hard work. Ben Brosnan too scored four valuable points for his side and Gordon Rossiter was lively in attack.
