Shels at home in senior ranks
September 12, 2008
Intermediate champions of 2007, Shelmaliers had little difficulty in their second-round Wexford Senior Football Championship second round tie against a disappointing Starlights on Saturday evening last when wining 1-13 to 0-5.
This was a most comfortable win from the young men from 'over the water' and while the opening quarter of the game proved even enough; it was in the ten minutes before half time that the victors began to consolidate their dominance. The Shels had five points to spare at half time with the Enniscorthy side only managing two points in the opening half. When Derek Walsh calmly put away the only goal of the game in the 34th minute it was looking increasingly difficult for Sarsfields and the fate was sealed once John Hudson notched a point only from a penalty award.
Garry Brilly did have a good game for Sarsfields and was in fact their only player to score from play.
