Wexford's defeat of his native Clare to secure their Division 1A status represents "serious" progress, according to Davy Fitzgerald.
The Model County joined Clare at the summit of the division after ending their 100 per cent record in Innovate Wexford Park yesterday.
"This is serious progression for Wexford. I know the Clare guys, they are good guys, they will be there or thereabouts," the Wexford manager is quoted as saying in the Irish Daily Mirror.
"I was delighted with the way the lads bounced back following Tipperary (who beat them in the last round). Tipp are a good side, but we had opportunities. I'm very happy with the way we played today. We consciously did not go for goals, we set out our plans and stuck to it."
Fitzgerald revealed how Lee Chin's half-time substitution had been a precautionary measure.
"Lee has a hamstring problem. Look, we have some massive games ahead and decided not to take the chance, but didn't Rory O'Connor do well when he came in. We're massively happy to have secured Division 1A (status), that's massive progression for Wexford hurling."
