The Westmeath County Board have confirmed that both Tom Cribbin and Michael Ryan will remain as senior football and hurling managers respectively.

Cribbin will embark on a third year in the role after he guided the Lake County to their second consecutive Leinster final this year.

However, one of his main aims this year will be to gain promotion out of Division Four following their third consecutive relegation in 2016.

In hurling, Michael Ryan and his coach Kilkenny's Michael Walsh have also decided to remain at the helm for another term.

There were many positives to take from this year's campaign including a league final win, while they also played well in the Leinster Round Robin (beating Offaly being the highlight) and giving Limerick a good test in the qualifiers.

County Board chairman Sean Sheridan was delighted that both men had agreed to stay on in their respective roles.

"Both managers are set to take up the mantle again in 2017. We have met Tom Cribbin and he has confirmed he will remain on. He is working on finalising his backroom team," Sheridan told the Westmeath Examiner.

"Our committee has to meet up with Michael Ryan again to put a plan in place, but both he and Michael Walsh will be staying on."
