Time not on McDonnell's side

Caulry manager Gordon McDonnell admits that he has a job on his hands keeping the side up in the senior ranks.

McDonnell only took on the role a couple of weeks before Caulry lost to Tyrrellspass in their last outing.

They are currently bottom of the group and this weekend they take on an Athlone side on the verge of a place in the quarterfinals.

"I wasn't long in the role when the Tyrrellspass game came along, and we had a few injuries, which didn't help," McDonnell told the Westmeath Independent.

"In saying that, we felt that training had gone well in the build up to that match. It just didn't transfer to the pitch, where it's most important, and we were disappointed with the overall performance.

"But it takes time when a new manager comes into get his ideas and ways across to the players. Some of it goes in straight away but it takes more time with other things.

"That's just the way it is, and to be fair we can't argue at all with the way the players have responded since the change in management."
