Westmeath captain Ger Egan has stressed that it is vitally important for them to push on and make their mark in the qualifiers.

Following last weekend's defeat to Dublin in the Leinster SFC final, Westmeath turn their attentions to the qualifiers where they will take on Mayo in round 4B.

Last year, the Midlanders found themselves in a similar position where they took on Fermanagh at the same stage, but they failed to produce a performance on the day and their campaign was ended.

However, Egan states in the Westmeath Examiner that they are more experienced this year and the aim is still to reach an All-Ireland SFC quarterfinal at the very least.

"We have to regroup now and the big prize is to get into an All-Ireland quarterfinal," Egan insisted.

He added: "We're back in Croke Park where we want to be. I'm really looking forward to it. I'm still gutted; I had huge belief in coming up here and winning, but it wasn't meant to be."
