October 04, 2015

Raharney's John Shaw.

Arch-rivals Raharney and Clonkill will face off for the Examiner Cup on Sunday, October 18 following their respective semi-final victories over Lough Lene Gaels and Castlepollard at Cusack Park yesterday.

Holders Raharney withstood a second half rally by an in-form Lough Lene Gaels to win on a 1-14 to 2-8 scoreline. Niall Flanagan's goal had helped the Deelsiders to a 1-8 to 0-6 interval lead and they extended their advantage to 1-11 to 0-6 before goals from Derek McNicholas and Dan Carty set up a tense finish.

In the first of the semi-finals, Clonkill were always in control against last year's runners-up Castlepollard. Brendan Murtagh's goal gave them a 1-7 to 0-5 half-time lead and they remained in the driving seat in the second half, despite an Allan Devine brace of goals for 'Pollard.
