Leahy is new Westmeath minor manager

August 16, 2015

Peter Leahy celebrates.

Less than a year after delegates refused to ratify his appointment as Westmeath senior football manager, Peter Leahy has been installed as the county's new minor manager.

Leahy was recommended for the senior job last October, only for the county board to reject the proposal. The position was eventually filled by Tom Cribbin, who led the Lake County to their first Leinster SFC final appearance in 11 years this summer.

Leahy, who co-managed the Westmeath ladies to an All-Ireland intermediate title in 2011, was subsequently appointed manager of newly-promoted senior outfit Caulry and was also part of hurling manager Michael Ryan's backroom team this year.

The Mullingar man was appointed as successor to former county goalkeeper Aidan Lennon at Friday night's minor committee meeting.
