Fermanagh manager Pete McGrath hailed his side's never-say-die attitude following their nine point qualifier victory over Westmeath today.

The Ernesiders are back in the quarter-final stage of the All-Ireland series for the first time since 2004 thanks to their 1-13 to 0-7 victory over the Lake County in Kingspan Breffni Park.

The Ulster outfit overcame the loss of half-backs Marty O'Brien and Ryan McCluskey to black cards to advance to a last eight date with either Kerry or Dublin on Sunday week.

"Obviously we are going to have a huge task in our next game but these players do not know when to quit," McGrath told BBC Sport.

"They are playing exceptionally well, have great heart and character, and if they can take that to Croke Park next week who knows what will happen."

Tomas Corrigan's accuracy from placed balls was a key ingredient in Fermanagh's winning formula. The gifted corner-forward finished with 1-7 to his name and five of his points came from placed balls.

"Against Roscommon, Sean Quigley's free-taking was not as unerring as it normally is and Tomas took over," the manager explained.

"We agreed during the week that is Sean was not hitting them the way he normally does, we would make the change again.

"Tomas hit some fantastic frees - none of them were easy."
