Westmeath manager Michael Ryan is adamant that his charges will be ready for the challenge of Wexford in the Leinster SHC quarterfinal.

Last Sunday's defeat to Laois means that the Lake County must take on Wexford at Cusack Park on June 7th, while a win over the O'Moore County would have seen them play Offaly at the same venue.

Despite being on the tougher side of the draw, the Waterford native stressed to the Westmeath Independent that they were looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead.

"We were beaten in the league final by Kerry down in Limerick and that was a setback, but we came back from that and we'll come back from this too," said Ryan.

"We've done an awful lot of work on our first touch since the league. The weather is often not the best for the league, playing in muck, but Sunday was a real championship day, with good weather on a good pitch.

"A lot of our hurling was geared towards the championship. This is when you want to hurl, in May, June and July. This is where everyone wants to be.

"Wexford are a formidable side. I saw them play Limerick recently. They will be difficult to beat but we will be very difficult to beat too."
