Keane relishing SFC opener

May 27, 2015

Former Westmeath footballer John Keane is looking forward to his first county SFC match as a manager.

The two-time All-Star will man the line for Maryland as they take on Castledaly at Moate on Sunday evening.

Keane took over Maryland this year and will guide his local neighbours through this year's campaign and he is eager to get going.

"We're looking forward to getting the championship up and running against Castledaly," Keane told the Westmeath Independent. "Hopefully, we can target getting out of the group stage.

"I suppose our aim is the same as everyone else at this time of the year - to work hard to try to reach the knockout stages. It won't be easy and we start against a Castledaly side that finished the group stage, last year, on the same number of points as ourselves.

"Only our superior head to head record saved us from the relegation play-off, so we know Castledaly will be strong and will give us a great match."
