Westmeath county board has received two nominations to date for the position of senior hurling manager.

The post has been vacant since Brian Hanley stepped down at the end of June and the two names put forward by clubs so far are both local. They are this year's minor manager and current Raharney boss Johnny Greville, and Ray Gavin, who managed the minors in 2011 and 2012 before taking charge of Tullamore last year.

Both men served as selectors under Hanley at different stages, so are familiar with the players and know exactly what's involved.

Former Offaly manager and Clare All-Ireland winning midfielder Ollie Baker - who worked alongside Seamus Qualter during his time in charge of Westmeath in the last decade - has also been linked to the role, but has yet to be formally nominated.

Whereas it's likely to be October before Westmeath have a new senior football manager in place following Paul Bealin's sacking earlier this month, the hurling vacancy could be filled before the September county board meeting.
