Westmeath chairman Sean Sheridan expects Paul Bealin to be handed another term as football manager.

The former Dublin All-Ireland winning midfielder intends seeing out his three years at the helm, despite failing to win a competitive game with the Lake County in his maiden season. And Sheridan is sure he will be ratified for another year.

"We agreed a three-year term with Paul Bealin and my clear understanding is that he will be ratified at the August meeting. The players are 100 per cent behind him. It has been a tough first season with a very difficult league campaign," the Tyrrellspass man said.

The August county board meeting is also expected to ratify a successor to Brian Hanley as hurling manager, with outgoing coach Martin Fogarty, Raharney manager Johnny Greville and Clonkill boss Donal Franks - who opposed Hanley last year - all believed to be in the frame.

"There are no candidates yet - we are still coming to terms with the defeat by Dublin in the Leinster U21 semi-final and with the news that Brian Hanley has resigned. If the U21s had reached a Leinster final, it would have been a great achievement," the chairman added.
