Westmeath footballer, Steven Gilmore is currently doing a fundraising campaign for charity; it is called '1 Year, No Beer' and it involves him not drinking any alcohol for a year while raising the funds for mental health charity Aware. He started this campaign on the 20th of May last year so he has exactly 6 weeks left today. He has held some local events over the last few months and has raised almost 3,500 euro so far.

"I began the campaign to raise funds for this life saving charity and also to increase awareness about mental health issues. I decided to give up alcohol as it has been shown that alcohol abuse and depression are connected. I have found the abstinence quite easy, you get used to it after a while"

Steven even abstained from drinking any alcohol during the celebrations of his club, St. Lomans Mullingar, winning the Westmeath SFC for the first time in 50 years. Steven is a 22 year old student in DCU and is enjoying his first year with the Westmeath seniors, playing all 10 competitive game so far this year.
