Crookedwood GAA Notes
June 17, 2013
Sponsored Cycle.
One of major fundraiser's of the year will take place on Saturday 6th July (Please note the date change). The cycle of the lakes has been a great family event for the last couple of years even though the weather hasn't been kind to us. Sponsorship cards are now available from any committee member and as all funds generated are going directly to the pitch and grounds development and all support would be greatly appreciated. For those not involved with the club they can pay an entry fee of €20 which is great value for the 50km route that has plenty of hills and valleys. There will also be a barbeque and refreshments served afterwards.
Junior League
Crookedwood 1-9 Lough Lene Gaels 0-12. We made the short trip to Collinstown to take on the Gaels recently. After a tough hard fought game we earned a point as the sides were deadlocked at the final whistle. This was a gritty performance from the lads as the never say die attitude came to the fore once more. In a keenly contested first half the gaels led a t half time by two points as we were guilty of some bad wides both from play and frees in the opening period. Our opponents took the game to us in the second half and we took our time in getting off the mark. Indeed with 12 minutes to go we still hadn't scored and the Gaels led by five points. Then a flurry of scores (including a well taken goal by Adam Mitchell) from the lads brought the game level with minutes remaining. Time ran out for both sides and a draw was a fair result. Hopefully we can bring this form into our championship match with Plunketts. The most pleasing aspect of this game was that we scored all bar one point from play while our opponents had to rely on their free taker for the majority of their scores. However, the fact that we conceded so many frees was disappointing and had we not given away so many scoreable frees we would've won this game. In saying that, very player has to be complimented for the effort given over the 60 minutes, as numbers were tight we hadn't the luxury of a sub or two.
