Westmeath fundraiser disappoints

June 12, 2013
Westmeath football board chairman Liam Gavin has expressed his disappointment over the support to a recent fundraiser at Mullingar Greyhound Racing Stadium.

Gavin admitted to delegates at last week's county board meeting that the event 'didn't go as well as planned.'

The chairman blasted clubs who have failed to return to return tickets for the race night and for not turning up on the night.

"From point of view, it was very disappointing. Only three clubs turned up to run in the relay, two intermediate clubs and one junior club.

"I think that's not good enough. Not one senior club was represented on the night, and I think it's terrible. For the amount of work we put in to try and put a night on, and to try and raise funds for our county footballers, it's not good enough.

"And then they haven't even the manners to return the tickets, or tell us if they are going to give us money towards it. So we don't know where we stand. I think 12 clubs have subscribed so far, that's all."
