Mullingar Shamrocks Club Notes

June 10, 2013
JFC Mullingar Shamrocks 0-17 v Garrycastle 0-09:
On Friday evening in Springfield, Shamrocks put down a marker in this year's Junior championship with a barnstorming display that rocked the table toppers. Racing into a three point lead within five minutes we led by six after 15. A defense that was anchored by David Miller at No 6 completely blocked out their opponents. The midfield partnership of Sean Maguire and Conor Twomey, not only scored seven points between them over the hour but, ensured a plentiful supply of ball to the forwards. Coming up to the half hour we led by 11 points, with Garrycastle only notching their opening point on the stroke of half time. On a very warm evening our side maintained their intensity and after 20 minutes had tacked on a further five points. The pick of these was a sublime kick from a very much in form Sean Maguire. Having made a number of changes and a natural easing of the pressure we allowed Garrycastle to kick five points . A fine solo effort by James Grogan in injury time put the seal on what was a fine performance. Team: Ronan Tyrrell, Calvin Kirwan, Robert Ryan, Effe Siode, David Coyne, David Miller 0-1, Conor McEntee, Sean Maguire 0-3, Conor Twomey 0-4, Nathan Smith, Dermot Curley 0-2, Ryan Blundell, Aonghus Smyth, Garry Corroon 0-3, David Noonan 0-1. Subs; James Grogan 0-2, Noel Gavin, Jordan Warde.

SFC Mullingar Shamrocks 1-9 v Maryland 0- 8:
On a superb evening for football our seniors came away with their second win of this year's championship last Saturday evening. It is fair to say that it was not one of the team's best performances. However, having lost to the same side last year it was important that we won on this occasion. Some excellent shot stopping by Philly Shaw at a key moment in the game secured the victory. With so many of our players committed to the county panel the team had not played together for a considerable time. This naturally has an effect on team performance. A full account of the game is published elsewhere in the paper.

U12 Girls Mullingar Shamrocks v Ballycomoyle:
On Thursday evening last our u12 girls traveled to Ballycomoyle to take on the home side. While missing some of our regular girls who had other engagements, it gave other girls on the panel a chance to get some game time. In what looked like it was going to be a tough game definitely lived up to all expectations. Not from a physical point of view but from a very high level of skillful football from both teams. Shamrocks took an early lead and from there looked to be in control of the game going into half time, but Ballycomoyle had other plans. The second half was a reverse of the first with Shamrocks letting Ballycomoyle get level on scores. The Shamrocks girls dug deep, played some lovely football and at the end ran out winners.
