Athlone U8 and U10 girls had their first game of the year against Clann Na Gael earlier in the week.It was great to see the girls bring the skills they had learned at training into the match. They really showed all their hard work at training is paying off.
More league matches will follow in the coming weeks.
Under12 Girls:Athlone v Moate.
Athlone Girls continued their successful run in the league this year with a memorable win over near rivals Moate as home advantage helped turn the fortunes Athlone's way. Moate showed signs of why they have been such a dominant force in the past especially in their midfield and half forward line, but Athlone's overall play proved too strong on the day. Notable performances from Blessing Imade, at half back, who won every ball that came within her vicinity, Casey Quinn and Amy Mc Bride in midfield, Niamh McGann at half forward and Katie Larkin at full forward were just some of the highlights from an impressive overall team performance and win. Kirsty Johnson in her first outing in Goals made a significant contribution with her well placed kick outs. Athlone Girls were all the more impressive from missing 3 of their strongest players and all the team got on the field and all contributed to the win. The girls have only lost one encounter narrowly to Kilbeggan- St.Josephs and face Goldsmith girls in their next match on the 13th June. Well done to the players and Brian, Adrian and Sheila, their coaches.
Athlone U12s- Forwards- Grace Halligan, Ellen O'Connell, Niamh McGann, Emily O'Callaghan, Ella McGlynn, Katie Larkin, Edel Cleary, Shauna Cline Byrne. Midfield- Amy McBride, Casey Quinn. Defence- Wiktoria Seweryniak, Becky Imade, Blessing Imade, Clodagh Scullion Kidd, Saoirse Hynes, Molly Larkin, Lucy Sheridan. Goalie- Kirsty Johnson.
