Farrell backs manager pay

Westmeath Chairman Tom Farrell
Westmeath chairman Tom Farrell believes GAA managers should be paid.
Speaking at last week's county board meeting, Farrell stressed that the amateur status is no longer as strong as it used to be in the game.
Since Paraic Duffy released a GAA report concerning payment to GAA members, the debate has escalated and Farrell is the latest to have his say.
"The amateur ethos of clubs and counties is not adhered too," The Westmeath Independent reports Farrell saying. "There will probably be rule changes to be made up the line.
"I think that managers deserve to be recompensed beyond the 50c a mile expense payment. The hours they have started to put in over recent years is something else and other members of the backroom teams are getting paid for their time."
