Clonkill and 'Pollard through to SHC semis

August 26, 2010
Holders Clonkill and former kingpins Castlepollard joined Raharney in the semi-finals of the SHC following their victories over Castletown-Geoghegan and St. Oliver Plunkett's respectively last weekend.

Clonkill hammered Castletown by 4-17 to 1-8 to set up a semi-final meeting with the winners of the quarter-final between Plunkett's and Ringtown. Plunkett's recorded a surprise victory over Clonkill in the group stage, so the champions certainly will not be taking them for granted if they should overcome Ringtown.

Clonkill showed no mercy to a disappointing Castletown side with Brendan Murtagh helping himself to 2-6 and Paddy Dowdall and substitute Sean Loughlin also finding the net. On this form, they are still the team to beat.

In last Sunday's other game, Castlepollard pipped St. Oliver Plunkett's for the remaining semi-final spot courtesy of a 3-10 to 2-12 victory. Stephen Bardon, Barry Kennedy and Kevin Brazil were among the goals as 'Pollard set up a last four date with losers' group winners Raharney.
