Bun' and Finea through to IFC semis
August 20, 2010
Bunbrosna and Castletown-Finea/Coole/Whitehall have qualified directly for the IFC semi-finals, while Caulry, Ballynacargy, Rosemount and Tang will join them in the knockout stages.
Championship favourites Bunbrosna had already qualified before their 3-15 to 2-10 Division 1 win over Shandonagh last Saturday, while Castletown-Finea finished top of Division 2, despite suffering a surprise 0-12 to 1-11 loss to St. Mary's.
Ballynacargy's 0-14 to 2-8 draw with Caulry earned them a quarter-final against Rosemount, who condemned Ballinagore to a relegation playoff by virtue of a 0-13 to 0-6 victory.
Caulry's quarter-final opponents will be Tang, who hammered Ballymore by 1-21 to 1-6. The winners of that clash will face Bunbrosna in the last four, while Finea await the winners of the Ballynacargy versus Rosemount quarter-final.
The relegation playoff will be contested by local rivals Ballinagore and Kilbeggan Shamrocks, whose 0-6 apiece draw with Moate All-Whites wasn't enough to keep them out of relegation trouble.
In the SFC, champions Garrycastle will face town rivals Athlone in the first quarter-final on Saturday week in Moate, with The Downs meeting Tubberclair in Cusack Park the following day. Mullingar Shamrocks and Killucan await the winners in the semi-finals.
