Gaels exit SHC

August 13, 2010
Last year's beaten county finalists Lough Lene Gaels are out of the race for the Examiner Cup following their 2-14 to 1-21 defeat to holders Clonkill at Cusack Park last Sunday.

The Collinstown side cannot progress to the knockout stages after winning just one of their four games. Castlepollard's 1-19 to 0-18 victory over Castletown-Geoghegan in last Sunday's other tie leaves the final round of matches very interesting, with 'Pollard meeting St. Oliver Plunkett's and Clonkill taking on Castletown.

The top two teams will qualify automatically for the semi-final, joining losers' group winners Raharney, with the third team setting up a quarter-final meeting with Ringtown.

Clonkill, Castlepollard and Plunkett's are in strong positions to qualify, with Castletown needing to beat the champions and also hoping Plunkett's can do them a favour by defeating 'Pollard. And even at that, they could be eliminated on scoring difference.

The final round of matches will take place on Sunday week, August 22 in Cusack Park.
