Div 2 League
Our Senior team returned to winning ways on Saturday evening in Mount Temple against Caulry in our Division 2 league game. Minus 10 senior†regulars Killucan found the†first half†of the match hard going and Caulry went in at half time leading by 0-7 to 0-2. In the second half Killucan played some excellent football and completely turned the game around with Barry Nea and Niall Flanagan scoring the goals that enabled Killucan to win out comfortably in the end on a scoreline of Caulry 0-8 Killucan 2-8.
Eamon Lynch made 3 wonderful saves at important times in the game, the full back line were excellent with newcomer Brian Duignan outstanding at corner back†and regular goalkeeper David Bryan playing himself into contention for the full-back position. The half back line worked hard against a quick Caulry forward line with Chris Cannon scoring an excellent point from centre back with the outside of the boot in the second half. The experienced midfield pairing of Rory Reilly and Conor Jordan†worked tirelessly and really stood up to the plate in the second half when they were needed. The half forward line worked hard throughout with Cormac Boyle the pick of the forwards scoring several points both from play and the placed ball. The full forward line battled hard on limited ball in the first half and the comeback was started by Barry Nea when he punched the ball home for the first goal early in the second half. Niall Flanagan who came on as a substitute fresh from playing for the Westmeath hurlers was excellent and it was his 30 yard wonder strike into the top corner that put Killucan in front for the first time in the game midway through the second half. Overall this was an excellent win for the team and the lads who were missing will have their work cut out to get their places back in the side.
Team: Eamon Lynch, Brian Duignan, David Bryan, Stephen Morley, Chris Leech, Chris Cannon, Kevin Corroon, Conor Jordan, Rory Reilly, Cormac Boyle, Alan Doyle, Pol Neary, Barry Nea, Mark Breslin, Paul Briody. Subs: Niall Flanagan for Kevin Corroon, Padraig Leavy for Mark Breslin and Cathal Brady for Paul Briody.
Minor league
Hard luck to our minors who were defeated in the league on Sunday last. Despite missing a number of our stronger players, it was a great team performance and perhaps deserved something from the game. Training continues this Friday.
