Westmeath G A A Notes By Pat Reilly Westmeath P R O. LEINSTER JUNIOR CLUB FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP: St. Mary's Rochfortbridge will face Moynalvey in the final in next weekend in Rochfortbridge. This is a great achievement for St. Mary's and hopefully will replicate the success of Ballinagore in 2005 This will be their toughest encounter yet and will require nothing less than full commitment from all if they are to lift the Leinster title. Moynalvey is a club of proud tradition and have in their ranks players that have represented Meath at Minor, Under 21 and Senior level. Liam Harnan represented the club with pride and has 2 All Ireland medals whilst present day player John Donoghue is a current member of the Meath senior panel. I would like to wish St. Mary's the best of luck next weekend and ask all Westmeath GAA supporters to make the trip to Rochfortbridge and support them in their bid for Leinster glory. CO. CONVENTIONS: The Co. Convention will take place in Ballymore GAA Centre on Saturday 20th December @ 6.00pm, all delegates are requested to be on time. The Minor Board Convention will take place on Monday 15th December, time and venue will be announced later. WESTMEATH MINOR FOOTBALL TRIALS: All players interested and eligible to play minor football in 2009 are invited to County Trials in the following venues and dates. Players are asked to have the following information ready for registration on the day of the trials, D.O.B. Mobile No. Home contact number, TRIAL DATES AND VENUES: North of the County: Sunday 7th December 2008 in Kinnegad @ 11.30 am SHARP South of the County: Sunday 14th December 2008 in Moate @ 11.30 am SHARP INVITATION: You are invited to attend seminar being delivered by Gary Keegan Director of Performance Management from the Irish Institute of Sport. The seminar will be held at 4pm in the Earl of Rosse theatre. Gary is most famous for his successful delivery of a world class system for the development of boxers for the recent 2008 Olympic games. The seminar is free. There is limited parking on campus so all attendees should be mindful of all parking signage regulations. Gary will be dealing with the following topics: 1. What is an elite athlete - amateur and professional 2. How do you become an elite athlete? 3. How do you stay at that optimum level? FUNKY FEET CAMPAIGN: Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital would like to invite your clubs to participate in its Funky Feet Campaign during February 2009. For children and young adults suffering from Bone Tumour Cancer, something as simple as a sneeze from a visitor can have harrowing effects on their already fragile immune system and can seriously compromise their entire recovery. With help from GAA Clubs in the County Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital aims to provide a sterile and infection free environment in the form of a new Isolation Unit. Complete with both Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Rooms, this new facility will ensure that patients in 'isolation', like children with Bone Tumour Cancer, will continue to benefit from vital treatments in a safe environment. You can make a difference by taking part in our 2009 Funky Feet Campaign, by selling Funky Feet Laces for Cappagh hospital, and have great fun doing it. Laces are ?2 for a pair For every 10 pairs of laces sold the club gets one pair free to sell for club funds or to kit out a team in striking coloured laces which make them easy to identify in bad weather games. There also a competition for all clubs taking part for the most inventive use of the laces as depicted in photographs I would be really grateful if all Clubs in the County would consider this proposal; it would really make a difference to thousands of people and with Cappagh's strong links to the GAA community it may benefit your members in the future.
