Farrell staying with Castledaly

November 26, 2008
Padraig Farrell is to continue as Castledaly manager in 2009 after guiding them to a first Westmeath SFC triumph last month. The Offaly native has committed his future to the south Westmeath club, despite their spectacular collapse at the hands of Navan O'Mahony's - who were subsequently well beaten by Kilmacud Crokes - in their first foray into the Leinster club championship. It's believed that a number of clubs in the midlands had contacted Farrell with a view to luring him away from Castledaly, but he has confirmed that he is going nowhere. "I'm very happy to remain at Castledaly," he said. "I spoke to the players and they gave me their full commitment, that was very important for me. As champions, everyone will want to beat Castledaly next year and it's very difficult to win back-to-back county titles, but that's our ambition for 2009." Farrell said all of this year's county title winning squad have confirmed an intent to play on, while there's also a possibility of a return for Kenny Larkin, whose football career has stalled somewhat since he had his jaw broken in a high-profile incident involving Down legend James McCartan in 2003.
