Junior Football Championship

Ballinagore 1-08 Ballynacargy 6-08

Any hopes we had of making the qualifier stages of this years championship were dealt a real hammer blow in Milltown last Sunday when we were soundly beaten by Ballyncargy. Our opponents got off to the perfect start as we gifted them an early goal through a poor kickout. We settled afterwards and played the best of our football for the following twenty minutes, however we failed to make the most of our opportunities and only put three points on the board. At this stage, Bal got in for a well taken second goal and followed up quickly with a fortunate goal that dropped in under the bar. They wrapped up the first half scoring with two points to lead 3-03 to 0-04 at the break. We opened the scoring in the second half with our fifth point but disaster struck two minutes later when our opponents scored their fourth goal and immediately followed up with a point from the kickout to leave eleven points between the sides. From here on, our lads battled gamely and the introduction of our subs livened up our attack with the indominatable Michael Ennis scoring a rocket of a goal. However the game petered out to its inevitable conclusion. This was a frustrating day at the office, a day when every goal bound shot for our opponents hit the net while our chances, the few we did create, were kept out or went narrowly wide, even Brandon Carey's late penalty was saved. That said, we must dust ourselves down and learn our lessons from this game and hopefully turn in good performances in our final two group stage games against St. Paul's on Friday evening and against CFCW on Monday evening.

 

U16 Football Championship

Our U16 footballers played St. Lomans last Monday evening in Lakepoint Park. A slow start by our lads gave the home side a lead they would not relinquish over the hour. Following this defeat we now find themselves in a three way playoff with St Lomans and Shandonagh to battle it out for 2nd place in the group and a semi-final place. We now face St Lomans again on Monday evening in Ballinagore at 7pm. Best of luck lads!

Lilliput Gaels Club Shop and Sponsorship

Our juvenile club is going from strength to strength and have recently launched a new online club shop on the O'Neills website where you can get the latest club leisure wear. The club has also received sponsorship for new jerseys for all age grades and we'd like to give a special thanks to Mark Finnane and EBS Construction, Conor Elliffe Domestic External Cleaning Services, Gannon Eco, Wallace Diesel Electric and Club Active for their very generous sponsorships. Our thanks also to the juvenile fundraising committee and especially to Paul O'Neill who spearheaded this campaign to have our underage teams kitted out in their new strips.

 

Club Lotto

Sympathy

The club extends it's deepest sympathy to Avril Gannon and the Corcoran family, Castletown, on the death of Avril’s father, Willie Corcoran. May he Rest In Peace.

 

Westmeath Ladies

Hard luck to Fiona Claffey and her Westmeath teammates following their defeat to Cavan at the weekend. They now face Monaghan in the senior relegation play-off. Best of luck to the team in it.
