ACL Div. 3: Moate All-Whites 2-18 Mullingar Shamrocks 1-8

Mullingar Shamrocks ACL Div. 3 team were no match for Moate All-Whites in wet, windy and freezing cold  Moate on Tuesday night in a match played under lights. Moate were buzzing and attacked relentlessly in the first half and at half-time led by 2-11 to 1-4. Their ability to move the ball was seen just before the interval when a Ross Corroon long-range free rebounded off the post, Moate gained possession and moved the ball swiftly downfield where Billy Barry dispatched the ball to the net for his side's second goal. Barry at full-forward was Shamrocks' tormentor in chief and kicked a number of points during the half. Robbie Forde blasted the first goal after soloing through the centre. Ross Corroon and Darren Keena (0-2) had Shamrocks opening scores before Nathan Smith goaled to make the score 1-11 to 1-3 and Gary Corroon scored Shamrocks' final point of the half. In a more evenly contested second-half Billy Flynn, Gary Walsh and Ross Corroon (0-2) were the Shamrock scorers.

Casting Call for The Sound of Musicals ..

Our upcoming 2019 mega fundraiser, The Sound of the Musicals presented by Mullingar Shamrocks will hit Mullingar Park Hotel on September 28th and we need YOU! In order to bring a slice of Broadway to the Mullingar stage, we need people and lots of people.

We are seeking up to 90 participants or more to make up seven teams which will each perform an abridged 12 minute version of a famous musical.

Our information and casting night will be on Friday, May 17th starting at 7pm in the Greville Arms Hotel.

Anybody from the age of 10 upwards can come along and take part, we are looking for people of all ages and backgrounds. No previous singing or dancing experience is required either. We will have a place for everyone.

However, if you can sing, dance or act then we would love for you to come along and take part in an informal and relaxed audition setting in front of the production team.

A simple dance audition will be held in groups of 12 on the night and singing auditions will be one-on-one with just the team. If you wish to audition for a singing part, please prepare a one minute or less song to sing (it can be anything), and bring a backing track along, the handiest way to do this is to look one up on Youtube prior to the night and bring your phone with you to the audition.

This is a show with a difference and will be a FIRST in the Mullingar area. On the night, seven abridged versions of famous musicals will be performed LIVE on the main stage by seven teams. Once every mini-musical has performed there will be an awards ceremony where the best performances of the night in the various categories will be awarded. It is also expected to be a massive team-building, social and fun experience for all involved. Why not try something new, exciting and challenging?

The night promises to be an all singing, all dancing extravaganza and it might even be better than last year's spectacular Strictly.

Under-age activity

A busy week at under-age level. We fielded two teams in the Under-12 League against Shandonagh on Tuesday night with 31 players braving the icy conditions.  Our minors drew with St. Loman's on Wednesday night, our under-14s had a very fine win against Garrycastle on Thursday and we rounded off the week on Saturday morning with two great Under-8 and Under-10 Go Games Blitzes with Shandonagh with lots of great football played by the young stars of the future.  On Monday night we lost out to St Michael's at under-16 level.

Under-14 Girls LGF League

Our Under-14 girls team opened their 2019 league campaign on Thursday evening at a wet Springfield. Kinnegad began strongly and Shamrocks found themselves on the back foot from the outset. To their credit, the girls never gave up and battled through with a much improved second half performance. We’re only at the beginning of a long season and there is plenty more football to be played. Looking forward to seeing everyone back at training on Saturday!
