Joe Quaid was a happy man after his Westmeath side maintained their 100% record in Division 2A with a win over Antrim in Belfast.

The victory leaves the Lake County on the brink of qualification for the divisional final with two rounds left to play against Meath and Mayo.

"That was a huge win for us as it was a must-win for Antrim," Quaid told the Irish News after the midlanders repeated last month's Kehoe Cup final victory over the Glensmen.

"We could still make the final if we lost, but the lads dug it out and come up here not wanting to be relying on other results or anything like that. It was a ding-dong battle.

"The hits that went in, the aggression shown without a dirty stroke - it was pure league hurling. Boys can win championships, but it's men who win league matches. It's all knock-out matches for us now effectively."
