U13 Westmeath Development Squad
Southern Gaels were well represented on the Westmeath u13 Development Squad recently when they travelled to the Kilcormack Centre of Excellence in Offaly to take on other Leinster teams such as Offaly and Kildare. Club men Danó McMonagle, Luke O’Connell, Johnny Martin and Calum Devaney all played for their county and got quality game time throughout the day despite the bitter cold conditions. Thanks to Danny McMonagle for travelling over with the lads. Gaels are raising their profile on the county scene continually and it’s likely we will see more of our players doning the maroon and white in the coming years.
U14/U16 Sunday Sessions
The U14s and U16s have commenced their winter training programme with a High Intensity Training Session to increase agility and aerobic fitness. The session takes place in the Gaelscoil hall every Sunday for the next five weeks from 5pm to 6pm. There was a great turnout for the first class last Sunday and all completed the tough workout with aplomb and a thirst for more next week. Thanks to Martin Geary for organising it.
Big Day Out next Sunday for U6s/8s/10s/12s
Next Sunday sees Southern Gaels take over the AIT International Arena. The U6s and U8s invade the sports facility in the morning for a variety of activities and team building exercises before having lunch in the canteen. They will be joined for a bite to eat by the U10s and U12s who will then do their activities in the arena in the afternoon. This is the end of year celebration for a great season that saw a huge amount of hurling taking place. Thanks to Pat O’Neill, the clubs Man of the Year, for organising this great event.
AGM on 30 November
For your diary, the club AGM will take place on Friday 30th November. It is very important that all members make an effort to come along and contribute to the running of our club. No doubt the generous donation from JP McManus will be discussed in great detail! Our thanks go out to the great man for this unprecedented windfall!
