Intermediate Football Championship

Ballinagore 2-08  Tubberclair 1-13

We came agonisingly close to collecting our first points in this years championship on Saturday evening when we played Tubberclair in well appointed Rosemount. We started the game very well and led by 1-01 to 0-00 after only five minutes of action, our goal coming off the boot of Darren Rigney who started the move and following a good assist from Brandon Carey, he cooly finished passed Gary Connaughton. We were dealt a hammer blow midway through the half as we lost influential inside forward Cormac Deegan to a black card midway through the half in what appeared a controversial decision that surprised all onlookers present. The video of the game only adds to our frustrations as we are no wiser as to why the curse of the black card struck again. Our opponents gradually got into the game but we held our nerve to lead 1-03 to 0-05 at half time. The second half was intense from start to finish. Our opponents levelled proceedings early on and took the lead with fine points before Brandon Carey brought us back on terms. After ten minutes action, what appeared to be a shot for a point from a narrow angle somehow managed to drop short and into the top corner for Tubberclair to give them a three point cushion. This score could have knocked the stuffings out of our lads but credit to them, we levelled the game with our second goal as Niall Kelly brilliantly collected a high ball from Michael Ennis and his pass found Paddy Ennis to finished to the top corner. An excellent point of the outside of Brandon Careys boot had us back in front with minutes remaining. Tubberclair finished the game strong though and had two points from frees to restore their lead into injury time. We pressed hard and had one or two chances to draw level, especially when Paddy Ennis appeared to be fouled in possession but play continued and a fisted point at the death from a break upfield gave our opponents the cushion to hold firm and claim the points. This was a brave and gutsy performance by Ballinagore and while we will be bitterly disappointed not to have earned at least a point, we can be very proud of the team. Team: Cathal Daly, Enda Claffey, James Sheerin, Robbie Keegan, Kieran Deegan, Marty Linnane, David Slevin, Frankie Deegan, Brandon Carey, Paddy Ennis, Enda Kenny, Michael Ennis, Niall Kelly, Cormac Deegan, Darren Rigney. U14 Football Championship

Lilliput Gaels 2-10  Kilbeggan/St. Joseph's 2 -06

We remain on top of Division 1 after our fourth win on the trot after this narrow win over our neighbours last Thursday evening in Kilbeggan. This was our toughest game yet and our opponents bossed the first half to deservedly lead by 2-04 to 0-03. We came more into it from the start of the second half but it wasn't until near the end that we eventually took the lead and a late goal by Cathal Elliffe gave us a rather flattering four point winning margin. Great credit to the team as this was a result they really had to grind out. Team: Sean Jackson, Oisin Kiernan, Killian Jackson, Ronan McLavin, Dylan Franzoni, David Maloney, Max Ripley, Shane Doran, Jack Gannon, Jack Mulligan, Cathal Elliffe, Conor O'Malley, Shane Corcoran, Philip Reynolds, Niall Claffey, Adam Cassidy, Andrew Dalton, Eoin Robinson, Shane Dalton
