Intermediate Championship Result
Crookedwood 2-19 Southern Gaels 0-9. After a sluggish start and more, we had a comfortable victory over the Athlone men in round 1 of the IHC. The final scoreline flatters us a bit as with fifteen minutes left to play there was only a few points separating the teams. However, a strong finish of point scoring and two late goals ensured we took the two points on offer. The most pleasing aspect was that the the majority of our score (2-14) came from play. Well done to all, a special mention for Brendan on his championship debut and to Ger McGovern on his first championship start after a long injury layoff. Team; A. O'Mara, T.Brennan, K.Orme, D.Hyland, G.McGovern, A.Savage (1-1), E.Murray, S.Savage, E.Nally, C.Savage (0-1), B.O'Mara (1-10), Andy Boyhan, B.McCarthy (0-2), G.Brennan, N.Yourell (0-2). Subs; S.McGovern (0-2) for Boyhan, C.Gilbert for G.Brennan, R.Crowley for Yourell
IHC Fixture
Round 2 of the championship see us take on Raharney on Fridayy evening next @ 7:30 in Delvin. All support would be appreciated.
Division 1 league
We finished off our league campaign against Castlepollard and were defeated on a scoreline of 2-17 to 1-11. We hurled well in patches in this game but as we learned in all our Senior league games, patchy hurling doesn't win games.
Junior League
We were thrown an unexpected lifeline in division 3A of the league when we learned we finished joint second in the group and faced a three-way playoff with Southern Gaels and Lough Lene Gaels for the right to play Turin in the final. Ourselves and Southern Gaels were drawn to play the first game, with the winners to play Lough Lene Gaels in what was effectively a semi-final. We registered a comfortable victory in the end, but with ten minutes left to play the sides were all square. A flurry of scores in the final ten as our opponents tired was the only difference between the teams. Once again, our tally of 4-12 from play was a noteworthy point from the game. Final score; Crookedwood 4-14 Southern Gaels 1-12. Team; A. O'Mara, J.Kiernan, K.Orme, D.Hyland, C.Yourell, A.Savage , E.Murray (0-2), Andy Boyhan , N.Kiernan, B.McCarthy (0-2), S.Savage (0-2), R.Crowley (1-0), C.Savage (1-2), G.Brennan (1-4), C.McGovern (1-0). Subs; C.Gilbert for McGovern, N.Bardon for Hyland, JJ.Brennan for C.Savage, T.Brennan for Murray.
Unfortunately, Lough Lene Gaels could not field on Wednesday evening, so we got a bye to the final which was fixed for Sunday evening in Cusack Park.
