U16 Football League
Lilliput Gaels 1-12 Tyrrellspass 3-13
Our U16 football side travelled to Tyrrellspass to take on the home side on Sunday evening. After a bright start, the sides were level at 0-03 apiece after ten minutes of action. Our physically bigger opponents had the better of things from then until half time. First they opened up a three point lead and then followed it up with three goals, their size and strength around the field leaving us under a lot of pressure from our own kickouts. Tyrrellspass went in leading at half time by 3-08 to 0-04. Our second half was much more positive as we took the game to Tyrrellspass and dominated possession and chances throughout, our opponents limited to breaks upfield which were well dealt with by a rejuvenated back line. We scored 1-08 and could have had a few more goals to our name but for some staunch defending by the home side. Despite the loss, the character our team showed, especially in the second half, will stand to them come the championship. Team: Lorcan Kiernan, Mark Killian, Ryan Boyne, Cathal Kelly, Zach Wright, Cian Gavigan, Cody Finnane, Darragh Seery, Peter Reynolds, Conor Murphy, David Jackson, Tiernan McMahon, Mark Kiernan, Killian Bolger, Adam McGoldrick. Subs: Warwick Kirby, Luke Seery, Peter Murphy, Sean Kincaid, David Maloney, Shane Doran, Jack Gannon, Ian Kiernan.
