Minors Div 3 v Killucan

Moate 2-5

Killucan 3-14

On Sunday our minor team played Killucan away. This was our second game in the league and was a rearranged game from the previous week.

In the first half both teams were evenly matched with the home side going in 1 point up at the break. However Killucan started the second half stronger and scored 1-06 without reply to take control of the game. Despite Moate scoring 1-03 in the second half we could never manage to claw back the difference and the game finished on a score line of Moate 2-05 Killucan 3-14. Overall despite result this was a very good team performance from the lads and they never gave up on the game.

Team: O Higgins, T Bradley, J Malone, O Johnston, F Cunningham, N Hamm, D Grenham, C O Brien, C Jones, G Cunningham, P King, J Simpson, L Gavin, J Moran, C Bracken. Scorers: C Bracken 1-02, J Simpson 1-00, C O Brien 0-01, L Gavin 0-01, P King 0-01.

U14 Feile na nOg

On Saturday morning last our U14 squad made the trip to The Downs for the group stages of Westmeath Feile Peil 2018. Our group consisted of The Downs and Tubberclair.

As Tubberclair were unable to field the group winner would come from our contest against The Downs.

The game started slowly with both sides missing a couple of chances, however as the half progressed Moate gradually got on top and went in 3 points up at half time. Moate improved in the second half running out winners and qualifying for a quarter final later that evening.

Athlone were our opposition in Moate on Saturday evening having also won their group earlier in the day.

After a first half when Moate were on top Athlone came right back into the game in the second half giving the home support a few nervy moments. However after a few late scores the final whistle went and Moate were through to a semi-final.

Lilliput Gaels were our opposition on Sunday evening at 6pm in Moate. In front of a large crowd the teams served up an entertaining match with Moate coming out on top at the end and qualifying for the county final on Saturday 21st of April next. Well done to all players.

U8s Trip to Croke Park

A group of 90 people travelled to Croke Park last Tuesday where we fielded four U8 teams on the day, with 31 players. As usual our players gave their all and the experience will no doubt live long in their memory. A huge thank you to all the coaches, parents and supporters who came along and helped out. It's such a shame this event only comes around every 3 years for us but we are still very grateful for the invite. Roll on 2021.
