Junior B Championship Final

St Lomans Mullingar 8.12 Ballynacargy 3.12

St Lomans finished off the year in fine style by capturing the Junior B Championship after a high scoring encounter in Lakepoint Park on Friday evening last. The value of the 3G surface came to the fore as the perfect all-weather surface ensured a fast-paced free flowing game of football.

Although it was Ballynacargy who opened the scoring with a point it was St Lomans who dominated the opening quarter and raced into a 3.03 to 0.02 lead. Chris Gilbert (who would score an incredible four goals), Michael Gleeson and James Cox raised the green flag. Garrett Hickey, Eoghan O Keeffe and Kevin Regan were point scorers. Hickey was involved in the goals and he would prove instrumental in most of the other goals scored later in the game.

Ballynacargy sprung into life and in a clinical eight-minute spell rattled home 1.07 without reply. St Lomans responded well and weathered the storm with the introduction of Fola Ayorinde having an impact. Garrett Hickey added two points to his tally before Chris Gilbert and James Murray buried home goals for the blues.

The late first half goals proved too much as Ballynacargy tried in vain to get back into the game. James Cox was a stand out performer in the second half adding a further 1.02 to his tally. Chris Gilbert added two more goals to his name while Kevin Regan, Fola Ayorinde and Paddy Lynam all kicked points to seal an impressive win for the blues.

After the game Westmeath Vice Chairman Frank Mescall presented the cup to St Lomans captain Senan Russell. Well done to the players and management on the win capping a wonderful year for the club in the silverware department.
