JFC quarter-final v St. Joseph's
We progressed to the JFC semi-finals following a 3-10 to 3-3 victory over our neighbours St. Joseph's in appalling weather conditions at TEG Cusack Park last Sunday evening.
How there were only six goals scored is a mystery as both teams missed several other chances to improve on their goal tally, while the woodwork was struck on several occasions. Dean Fitzgerald must have set a new record when he hit the post three times in the space of about 10 crazy seconds late in the second half!
Despite playing against the elements, we dominated the first half and a David Fennell goal had us perched on a 1-8 to 0-2 lead at the break. When Fennell scored his second major two minutes after the restart, we looked set for a comfortable win, but St. Joseph's refused to give in and got in for three goals, the last of which came from an Andrew Meares penalty with the last kick of the game. The pick of the six goals was scored by Paul Fennell who sent a bullet of a shot to the roof of the net with five minutes to go.
We can now look forward to a JFC semi-final against Ballynacargy which has been fixed for the same venue at 4.30pm on Saturday. Bal' have already beaten us twice in this year's championship and it goes without saying that a big improvement will be required if we're to turn the tables and reach our second successive final.

Heartiest congratulations to the McCormack sisters, Joanne, Edel and Mairead, and their Westmeath camogie team-mates on being crowned All-Ireland junior 'premier' champions at Croke Park last Sunday.
