NFL: Saffrons stunned by Decies

20 April 2008

Antrim were left red-faced at Casement Park after Waterford buried their Division Four promotion hopes with a surprise 1-8 to 0-8 victory.

The Saffrons went into the game with promotion within reach, while the Decies had little to play for but pride after last weekend’s luckless defeat to Tipperary.

But it was the visitors who produced the goods, destroying Antrim’s promotion dreams and in the process handing the coveted runners-up spot to their provincial rivals (Tipp).

Antrim held a slender 0-5 to 0-4 advantage at the break but claimed both points thanks to a 51st-minute goal from CORNER BACK Maurice O’Gorman - a minute after Antrim wing back Tony Scullion got his marching orders.
