Ballinacourty do the business

November 12, 2007
For the first time in 26 years Ballinacourty are the Waterford SFC holders after a gritty 3-4 to 1-7 win over Ardmore in the final at Dungarvan. A controversial eight minute penalty put the winners elect on the front foot and then a second goal shortly afterwards from Mark Fives had them on the cusp of easy street. After failing to score for the opening 21 minutes, Ardmore eventually got up and running with two points from Alan North and Clinton Hennessy. Ardmore got a huge lift in the final minute of the half when James O'Donnell fired home in great style. Then Hennessy propelled Ardmore in front for the first time in the match with a free to leave the Round Tower ahead by 1-4 to 2-0 at half-time. Ballinacourty were much the better team in the third quarter and points from Patrick Hurney and Mark Gorman saw them eye up the winning post. Ardmore came back again to get within a single point but the four Hurney brothers combined to put Patrick through for the clinching score.
