The late Tommy Coughlan

It is with feelings of profound regret we record the passing of Tommy Coughlan, Ballinard, Ballinacourty, which sad event occurred at his home on Friday, February 24, 2006, unexpectedly.

Tommy who was the son of the late Jim and Margaret (nee Dunford), natives of Kilgobinet, was born in 1917 and was brother of the late Mary, Jimmy and Willie. His wife Mollie, pre-deceased him by 30 years.

In his youth Tommy worked for Mrs. Denny at Kilminion and later farmed at Ballinacourty. In the late 1960's he sold the land to Quigley Magnesite and was employed there until he retired.

He was a loyal follower of the GAA and played football with the Pike and Ballycoe and won a County Junior Football medal with Ballycoe against Fenor in 1944. In later years he enjoyed meeting and chatting with friends at the Village Inn, Tommy's Power's and Lord MaGuire's. he played cards at Bridgie Terries every Wednesday night and he enjoyed the Senior Citizens' outings and especially the Christmas Dinner.

His passing is much regretted as it leaves a void in the community. He will be greatly missed and mourned by his nephews Jim and Paddy Coughlan and nieces Mary O'Halloran, Kathleen Coughlan, Mary Dwane, Moll Shields and Babs Murray.
