Hartley says his final goodbye

Fergal Hartley with the Munster SHC cup
Fergal Hartley has called time on his Waterford career after coming back to play one last year of hurling with the county in 2005. The Ballygunner man retired once already at the end of 2003 and missed the entire 2004 season as a result, before having a change of heart and making a comeback last year. Despite claiming the man of the match award in December's Munster club final against Newtownshandrum, Hartley feels his time at intercounty level is finally over. "I'm 34 next month and apart from that, every fella has to know when it is time to call a halt," said Hartley when speaking to the Irish Daily Mirror. "If I went back this year, I wouldn't have been guaranteed a game. I'm busy at work, I'm busy at home and very few fellas play at 34 years old."
